Algiers Port Customs' Services foiled, during last week end, an attempt to import quantities of Israeli-Made motion detectors to Algeria by a private company in Algiers, although they are spy gadgets that are banned from import without a license, as the public prosecutor of the court of Sidi M'hamed ordered security services to open an investigation.

Details of the case, according to Echorouk sources, are dating back to last Wednesday, following an inspection that was carried out by agents of the Inspectorate of the customs departments of goods in Algiers Port, for containers that arrived that day, and during the inspection by the scanners and automated control systems, they found suspicious objects.

"A container was opened  and inspected by customs officers, where they found 78 motion detectors, and during the preview by opening one of the devices it was written with a golden colored Star of David on one of the internal parts, and at the bottom the words "Made in Israel" were written".

"After immediate inspection, the goods were seized, and the case's file was handed over to the prosecutor of the Court of Jurisdiction, which in turn ordered the competent authorities to launch an investigation into the case, particularly since these devices' importation is banned without a licence".

"In this context, the judicial police in charge of investigating, summoned the company's owner to ask him about the way of importing this kind pf products to Algeria, particularly since they made in Israel, and it turns out that the owner of the company was not aware that the devices which he imported from China are Israeli-made".

"For his part, Regional Director of Algiers Port, Zoubir Allaoui, ordered the customs' teams who are  working in the port to tighten supervision and inspection of all the containers that are imported from abroad through inspection with scanners through and automated control system, and customization to prevent the smuggling of such suspicious goods".

A motion detector is a device that detects moving objects, particularly people. It is often integrated as a component of a system that automatically performs a task or alerts a user of motion in an area.
