Algerian Minister of Mujahideen or War Veterans, Tayeb Zitouni, has lambasted at France and demanded to return skulls of the glorious martyrs of the Algerian revolution, who has been held in a historical museum in France for more than a century and a half with no pangs of conscience on the part of the successive French authorities, as he put it.

In the same context, Mr Tayeb Zitouni said during a working visit on Thursday to eastern Djelfa province, that the position of Algeria on the memory file is crystal-clear towards France, while confirming that he had received instructions from the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister to follow up on the outstanding issues such as the horrific French nuclear tests conducted in Reggane (southern Algeria) which he described as sheer bombings, not experiments because of the untold human and material losses sustained by the Algerian side at that time.

He indicated the Martyrs’ skulls file has been taken in charge by the Ministry of Mojahedin in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through a permanent contact with the Embassy of Algeria in France. Joint meetings are being held for this purpose with the French side, added Mr. Zitouni.

The minister also expressed utter surprise at France’s dogged attitude on the issue because "a country like France which claims Democracy and Human Rights can keep skulls, cut off with barbarism and savagery by the French colonizer, a heinous act that only terrorism can perpetrate, in a museum with the aim of showing them to visitors”, as he put it.

Mr Tayeb Zitouni lamented this somber situation describing the horrendous crimes committed by colonial France in Algeria as a "despicable image" in the history of humankind.
