Rescue and clean up operations beefed up in Ghardaia
The Algerian Union of building contractors reacted to the distress call launched by Ghardaia (southern Algeria) local authorities, by sending 19 trucks and 09 bulldozers to take part in the cleaning up of the town ravaged by floods last week.
- In a telephone conversation with “Echorouk”, the acting head of the union, Salim Kacemi declared that an extraordinary meeting took place on the second day of the “Eid” to mobilize the union’s resources for the rescue operations.
- For their part, local authorities resorted to drastic means in the cleaning up including the removal of mud surrounding buildings and the tearing down of those about to crumble.
- In this respect, M Kacemi called on the inhabitants to stay away from the weak structure to avoid any kind of accident, adding that the union’s equipment left the construction sites to take part in the rescue operations as it was the case in the past notably during the major earthquake that hit the region of Boumerdes .
- As concerns the international help, the Emirates Red Crescent donated tents, mineral water food and generators of a value estimated at $ 100 thousands to be distributed to the disaster victims by the Algerian Red Crescent
