Offshore works in Medgas pipeline completed

The offshore works on the Medgaz pipeline have been completed said the Algerian ministry of energy and mines today, in a press release.

   
  • "The works on the Algerian territory have been completed execpted a coppression plant in Beni Saf and the link between Almeria and Albacete in Sapain" said the ministry.
  • The Italian Saipem is in charge of achieving the offshore section of the pipeline. It streaches on 210 km and goes 1260 m in depth. The cost of the project amounts $ 900 million.
  • The Medgaz pipeline is designed to deliver some 8 billion m3 of Algerian gas per year to Europe via Spain. It is expected to start by 2009.
  • The Med gaz company is shared by Algerian state run oil company Sonatrach, the Spanish Cepsa Iberdrola, the French Gaz de France, and the Portuguese Endesa.
