2.5 Million Algerians Sell, Buy Goods Online

About 6% of Algeria’s population, or 2.5 million of them sell and buy goods online, while 3.4 million Algerians have Instagram accounts, half the total number “42 million” have a Facebook account, I.e 21 million Algerians, as online buying and selling noticed a widespread trend in 2017.

A study of the e-commerce leader in Africa and Algeria, Jumia Travel, revealed that the networking rate in Algeria reached 50% for 42 million Algerians by the end of 2017, due to the “democratization” of the mobile phone and the emergence of a number of new Internet- Restaurants, hairdressers, beauty marketers and others.

The social networking level reached 46%, which represents 21 million users.

Jumia Algeria director, Soufiane Boudri, confirms that men are more likely to use online purchase.

“For example Jumia Travel website is visited by men by 55%, while women represent 45% of online buyers, and the website receives 1.7 million visits monthly, including 34% of youth between 18 and 24, and 16% between 35 and 44, 13% between 45 and 54 and 9% for more than 54. The most sought items are telephones, electronic equipment, welfare products, home maintenance and clothing”.

“20 million Algerians, or half of the population, have a bank account, while only 6% percent, 2.5 million Algerians, have a credit card, and they usually make purchases and sell online, and 100% of consumers who were surveyed believe that they use the Internet for exploration before buying and prefer online ordering to win time, and most of them are willing to pay more for home delivery”.

In contrast, the Jumia Travel report confirms that statistics of Algeria’s Internet use show that 56% of Algerians use automated media in 2017, 41% have smartphones, 3% have electronic tablets and 0.05% have other gaming devices, while the other 21 million Algerians have a Facebook account, 90% of whom are connected via Smartphones, 39% are women, 61% are men, and 3.8% are accountants who use their accounts to publish paid advertising pages, and 3.4 millions Algerians have an account at the INSTAGRAM, 38% of whom are women and 62% are men.
