Abdelmadjid Tebboune: “This Is Our Goal, Methodology For Amending The Constitution”

The amendment of the constitution “aims to build a strong state and spare it the unrest that is eating away the brotherly and friendly countries along with many countries of the world that are undergoing profound transformations”, The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, affirmed on Sunday, in a speech marking the 30th anniversary of the Constitutional Council’s creation, that was delivered on his behalf by his adviser, Boualem Boualem.

“The idea of amending the constitution profoundly and comprehensively, which we expressed before and after the presidential elections, as an essential step towards the new republic that we believe in the necessity of building it and in which amending the constitution is a priority the aims to achieve a strong state in which citizens are equal before the law and freely exercise their rights within the framework of the law”.

President Tebboune said that the constitutional amendment also aims to “support and accompany the path of openness of Algerian society to modernization in light of respecting its civilizational values and working to preserve its stability and avoid the turmoil that afflicts brotherly and friendly countries that surround us along with many countries of the world that are undergoing profound transformations”.

“Algeria is preparing today to amend its constitution with a deliberate methodology, as the start of consultations with national figures on this end coincided mainly with the commission of a drafting committee that is entrusted with the task of preparing the amendment of the constitution, which is composed of experts with a high scientific level, to be followed by a broad discussion to discuss it in Parliament, which will be broadcast directly by various media so that the citizen realizes and participates in the discussion on the various aspects of the amendment, and the discussion will also include the various segments of the political class and civil society”.

“Our methodology for embodying this view is based on solid and firm foundations away from any cracking, misrepresentation, or improvisation, which would spare our countries that have suffered from the scourges and tragedies of terrorism and instability, and our people have rejected altogether and in detail”.

“With this same view, Algeria is striving and declaring that it will spare no effort for peace, stability, conflict resolution, and hotbeds of tension, whether in the neighbouring countries such as Mali, Libya, or anywhere else in Africa and the rest of the world, which is an established principle in the foreign policy of the Algerian state”.

“The constitutional amendment is dictated by our commitment to the necessity of expressing the aspirations of the people towards the changes that are produced by the blessed popular movement (Hirak), which confirmed every time my commitment to meet its demands and all the developments that resulted from the new reality of our country at the political, social and economic levels”.

“The option to review the constitution is the first step in a comprehensive vision that aims to strengthen the institutional edifice of the state and is aimed at enabling our society to gradually liberate and control modernity standards within the framework of our civilized values. This option truly expresses the construction of a modern society project that we have started with steady steps, a community project that is based first and foremost on promoting and consolidating harmony and national reconciliation, based on preparing a constitution that has foundations that meet the condition of national consensus”.
