Algeria Expresses Concern Over Escalation Between Conflicting Parties In Libya

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed, on Thursday, that Algeria is following with great concern the recent developments of the situation in Libya against the background of the escalation recorded in the positions between the conflicting political parties, stressing its principled  stance on the Libyan crisis based on respecting the free will of the Libyan people and based on relevant Security Council resolutions.

A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that “Algeria is following with great concern the recent developments of the situation in sister country Libya against the backdrop of the escalation recorded in the positions between the conflicting political parties and affirms its principled position on the Libyan crisis based on respecting the free will of the Libyan people and based on relevant UN Security Council resolutions.”

The statement added that, “as Algeria renews its call for a comprehensive and lasting political solution through a Libyan-Libyan inclusive dialogue away from external interference, whatever its form and source, it calls on the Libyan parties to exercise wisdom and overcome the language of   violence in order to put an end to the ongoing fighting in this neighboring and brotherly country.”

Also, “Algeria reaffirms – according to the statement – its side with the Libyan people in this delicate stage of its history and its support for its expectations and aspirations for security, stability, development and cooperation with all its neighbors.”

Libya has been in the throes of a political and military crisis  involving the internationally recognized National Accord government and another government based in the east of the country supported by the House of Representatives and military forces led by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar since the overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi’s regime in 2011.
