Algeria: Former Minister Moussa Benhamadi Jailed For Corruption
A judge and adviser at the Supreme Court ordered, on Wednesday, the judicial services to jail Moussa Benhamadi, former Minister of Post and Information Technologies, in the temporary detention on charges of corruption.
Benhamadi appeared before the Supreme Court as part of an investigation into corruption after his case was transferred from Algiers Judicial Council in early August to the Supreme Court.
Moussa Benhamadi is the brother of Condor company’s owner, Abderrahmane Benhamadi, who was jailed last August with two of his brothers, along with frames at Mobilis and a number of employees and officials.
Those involved were charged with money laundering, transfer of property resulting from criminal proceeds of corruption, dispelling and using the Bank’s funds in a manner that is contrary to the interests of the Bank, inciting public officials to exploit their influence in order to obtain an undue advantage, hidden financing of political parties, taking advantage of the power and influence of state agents during the conclusion of contracts and deals in order to increase prices and adjustment in their favor in the quality of materials and services and supply, abuse of the job, concluding contracts that violate the legislative and regulatory provisions in force in order to give unjustified privileges to third parties, and waste public funds.
