Tens of Algerian illegal immigrants in Ceuta in Spain protested asking for their deportation to the rest of the Spanish cities for a better life. According to media reports, the number of illegal immigrants who reached Spain in 2016 is considered as the largest number ever since 2010.

Two days ago, tens of Algerians living in the city of Ceuta located between Morocco and Spain took to the street. They called for the Spanish police to authorize them to travel to other Spanish cities. They have been in Ceuta for more than a year where they live in difficult conditions.

A Spanish TV channel reported that there are about 180 Algerians in Ceuta. They have a temporary residence card and are not allowed to leave the city. They showed anger because they could not find a job while they receive aid in refugees’ camps.

Earlier in summer, hundreds of Algerians and Moroccans protested against Spanish authorities as they had stayed in Ceuta for more than 5 years. They called on the government to allow them to travel to other Spanish cities to improve their conditions. Some of them were deported while the others are still living in Ceuta.

According to media reports, Spanish authorities received more than 50 boats carrying more than 700 illegal immigrants on Cartagena’s coasts in 2016. Most of them were Algerians.

Earlier in 2017, a boat carrying 12 Algerians were arrested in Spain.

Algerian coast guards have recently foiled an attempt of 85 people to smuggle themselves from the provinces of Oran and Ain Timouchent to Spain. Of them, there were a woman, her two three-year-old sons and a pregnant lady.
