Algerian Illegal Migrant, Infected With Corona Virus, Escapes From Hospital In Spain

An Algerian young man, infected with Corona virus, fled from Santa Lucia Hospital in Cartagena, near Murcia, Spain, amid a state of alert by the police who are searching for him and isolating him to avoid the transmission of infection.

Spanish media reported that the 25-year-old youngster fled at dawn Sunday from the hospital where he was being treated after it was found that he was infected with the new Corona virus, after he jumped from the window of the room in which he was present, noting that the fugitive had arrived a week ago (Last Sunday) to the coast of Cartagena.

According to the same sources, 108 Algerian harragas or illegal migrants arrived a week ago (last Sunday) on the coast of the city on 10 boats, and after tests and diagnoses it was found that 8 of them were infected with the new Corona virus, while their 100 other escorts were isolated to avoid a possible infection.

The Spanish police began extensive searches in the city, according to the same sources, and issued a special bulletin that includes specifications for the fugitive from the hospital in an attempt to track his impact and return him to the hospital.

For months, the Spanish authorities have imposed strict controls on the Algerian harragas or illegal migrants, who are isolated immediately after their arrest and the tests and analyses of the novel Corona virus are carried out.

According to data from the Spanish Ministry of the Interior, the Algerians are the first nationality of those arriving for the harragas arriving in Spain and its southern coasts since the beginning of this year, amid warnings from the European Commission of the danger of the presence of new Corona virus infections in their midst, in addition to indications of their activity to organized smuggling gangs whose activities continued despite the spread of the Covid 19 pandemic .

The Italian immigration authorities in Sardinia for their part have recorded two cases of infection with the novel Corona virus among the Algerian harragas who arrived on the coast of the island last June, while their companions, who numbered more than one hundred illegal migrants, were isolated.
