Algerian Security Services Seize 11 Tons Of Moroccan Cannabis In 4 Months

The latest report that was issued by the National Bureau for Combating Drugs and Addiction warned of the large quantities of Moroccan drugs that cross the Algerian border.

In the language of the figures, the report revealed that the various security services seized more than 11 tons of cannabis in Algeria during the four months of the current year, 72% of which was seized in the west of the country.

According to the National Drug Control and Addiction Agency, 10,910,983 kilograms of cannabis were seized during the first four months of 2018, of which 72.23% were seized in the west by gendarmerie, police and customs.

The source added that the amount of cannabis that was detained during this reference date has decreased by 43.12% compared to the same period of 2017, because of the strengthening of the security control at the border level.

The annual report of the National Office of Drug Control and Addiction for the year 2017 shows that the various services seized more than 52 tons of cannabis in Algeria, of which about 79% in the west of the country, which is equivalent to 41 tons that were seized in the border with Morocco and 3,000 of Cannabis were seized during the past year.

As for the persons who are involved, the same agency reported that more than 25,000 people were involved in consumption, promotion and drug trafficking cases in 2017.
