الشروق أونلاين

Authorities have begun lifting the parliamentary privilege and immunity of the former minister and the current senator at the National Assembly, Ammar Ghoul, at the request of the judicial services, which constitutes the beginning of the punishment against the former minister, after investigations reveal his involvement in corruption in the file of the East-West highway project, which devours billions of dollars and is not completed today.

Echorouk News channel reported that the Public Prosecutor’s Office has officially started proceedings to lift the parliamentary immunity of the former Minister of Public Works Ammar Ghoul.

According to the same source, the lifting of the parliamentary immunity of Ammar Ghoul aims to hear the former Minister of Public Works, and former Transport Minister, over implication in corruption cases.

According to these developments, Ammar Ghoul is the third member of the National Assembly (senator) to face the lifting of parliamentary immunity after the former Secretary General of the National Liberation Front Party and former Minister of Solidarity Djamal Ould Abbas, and former Minister of Agriculture and Solidarity, Said Barakat, on issues related to Corruption during the conduct of funds of the Ministry of Solidarity.

Observers said the procedures to lift the parliamentary immunity of Ammar Ghoul are linked to the East-West highway project, which has known the outbreak of a scandal of corruption during the supervision of Ammar Ghoul on the reins of the Ministry of Public Works, a project that devours billions of dollars and is not completed today, despite trials involving a number of those involved in 2015, but accusation did not include the Minister Ghoul.

It is also unlikely that the lifting of control measures will also have to do with the corruption files of projects in the era of Ammar Ghoul, which would have been for the benefit of Ali Haddad Complex for public works, especially in relation to roads.
