Iraqi President Massoum: "I am personally interested in settling the vexed Algerian prisoners’ file”

Iraqi President Fouad Massoum, has told the Algerian Ambassador to Baghdad, Abdelkader Benchaâ that he is devoting all his personal attention to what has become known as the "Algerian prisoners’ file in Baghdad," while calling for the need to further consolidate the joint Algerian-Iraqi work, particularly in the field of oil industries and related cooperation at the level of "OPEC", and that of the Arab League as it is, he said, in everyone's interest to serve the two brotherly peoples and those of the whole region.

During an audience granted to the Algerian Ambassador posted in Bagdad, the Iraqi head of state said that there were some “positive signs” regarding the long-running Algerian prisoners’ file, stressing that he is striving to thrash out a final solution to this vexed issue any time soon.

The meeting also allowed for the examining of the overall situation now prevailing in the regional arena and to emphasize the need to expand the scope of bilateral cooperation and the consolidation of efforts to combat the scourge of terrorism and extremism.

According to an official source, the Algerian Ambassador his Excellency Abdelkader Benchaâ conveyed on the occasion the warm greetings of President Abdelaziz Bouteflika to his Iraqi counterpart, while reiterating the keenness of Algeria on shoring up bilateral cooperation and strengthening relations at all levels between the two brotherly Arab countries.
