Algeria’s Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal said efforts are continuing to speed up the settlement of shantytowns situation and construction licences operation.

“This issue has a sensitive character. It is not only related to the legal situation of individuals’ property but also to the preservation of our cultural identity,” Sellal told members of Parliament.

He added that public authorities give a big importance to the issue by promulgating the Law 15-08 on buildings construction.

He also talked about a ministerial instruction to all the prefects to reduce administrative procedures related to buildings construction.

The housing minister gave an instruction to public real-estate promoters to settle the situation of unsold buildings.

“As cases are different, assigned commissions should examine each case separately in view to legal specificities of each of them,” said the Prime Minister.
