National People's Army, together with other security services, warned against the influx of illegal immigrants into the national territory as they posed a real threat to Algeria's national security.

In the language of figures, during the first six months of the current year, the military units arrested more than 5,000 illegal immigrants from various Sahel countries and even other countries who entered the line on humanitarian grounds.

Latest figures that were provided by the military command in the last number of the National Defense TV program  "Salil", the illegal immigration to the national territory reached record levels during the first six months of the current year compared with the same period of 2016 and 2015, which constitutes a real threat to the security of Algeria, considering that the smuggling of migrants has become a "time bomb" and another challenge that is added to the social, economic, political and security challenges that are faced by the country, especially that the number of "illegal immigrants" is increasing every year and they arrive at an accelerated pace to Algeria, especially as the phenomenon is no longer limited to nationals from neighboring African countries, but also to Asian and MENA countries, which have also become exporters of clandestine immigrants.

On the other hand, military medical doctors warned of the dangers of migration from 23 African countries to Algeria, especially after the events in Libya and Mali, and the consequent influx of refugees, which made the danger beyond arms and drugs smuggling, to the infectious diseases that are transmitted by more than 10.000 illegal immigrants annually to the Algerians, and 30.000 refugees, which are classified as 12 dangerous diseases such as malaria and AIDS.

For its part, the figures of the Central Health Department, led by the gendarmerie, show that the gendarmerie units recorded, during the last 3 years, over 30.000 illegal immigrants who entered Algeria from various countries of the Sahel and even other countries.

In the context, the head of the Department of the Use and Preparation of the National Defense Ministry, Major General Charif Zerrad, said: "There is a fear that migrants will be exploited by terrorists and organized crime criminals, who have become a threat to the security and stability of the region. The phenomenon of illegal immigration increased and becomes a source of concern for many countries because of the difficulty of controlling the massive influx of migrants".

For his part, Foreign Affairs Minister, Abdelkader Messahel, asserted that the illegal immigrants pose a real threat to Algeria and that this threat is represented by an organized "Mafia" that includes Algerians, which is framing the illegal immigration to Algeria after the closure of the Libyan crossing by the presence of foreign forces and representatives of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), explaining that human smuggling cells have direct links with some terrorist groups and organized crime.
