The decision of JSK’s board of directors to dismiss the football club’s president Mohand Cherif Hannachi ended 24 years of reign at the head of Canaries.

Hannachi has been JSK’s president since 1993. He is the sixth president after Abdelkader Khalef, Ouminia Hadj Arezki, Omar Belhocine and Rachid Baris. The club won 10 titles, 4 African cups, 4 national championships and 2 Algeria’s Cups under his leadership.

Two different phases marked Hananchi’s presence at the head of the club. The first phase was characterized by brilliance and victories on local and continental levels. In 1994, JSK won Algeria’s Cup followed by the National Championship and the African Cups in 1995.

JSK remained in competition for the first places on local level. It was brilliant in an unprecedented way on continental level by winning the African Cup in 2000, 2001 and 2002.

After this continental brilliance, JSK had been Algeria’s Champion three times in 2004, 2006 and 2008. He also won Algeria’s Cup in 2011. It was the last title before a series of failures. The club became an “ill man” who plays each season just to avoid to fall and not win titles.

A large number of fans and old players called on Hannachi to quit but he refused. Because of that, a strong opposition front was formed. Many marches were organized in Tizi Ouzou for his departure but he still resisted.

Hannachi is a legend which has gone after working with 50 coaches. He was known for replacing coaches and getting involved in their work.
