Government To Make Decisions About Cars' Import Licenses Within A Week

Authorized car dealers have not yet received any official correspondence from the Ministry of Commerce or a directive that is requiring the distribution of import licenses in 2017, which has already been identified with 25.000 vehicles this year, a member of the National Association of Car Dealers and its former President, Mohamed Baeri, told Echorouk.

"Ministry of Commerce explained that the response to car dealerships will be next week".

"Until now, there are no official data on import licenses that have been significantly delayed this year, as 2017 is a white season for the dealerships who could not import any vehicles, but those cars that are calculated in the last year's quota which reached 98,000 vehicles".

According to Echorouk sources, the priority will be given to the distribution of import licenses and the roofing of the quotas of each authorized leadership for those who intend to invest through the completion of assembly and installation plants, handling units and production of spare parts, and the old market agents and those responsible for their tax liabilities and the creators of a larger number of jobs.

Cars import figures for the first half of 2017 show a decline in the share of authorized dealers to $ 111.33 million, as they did not benefit from any import license for the current year until the present time, while imports of persons from tourist vehicles amounted to $ 373 million, compared with the same period of last year. 

Imports of installation companies from uninstalled vehicles reached $ 540 million during the same period, a double figure compared with the same period of last year, despite the procedures of tightening the belt.

According to official figures, the imports of tourist cars by the car dealerships declined significantly during the first half of 2017 by 71% in terms of the value and 78% in terms of quantity. 

The same source explained that the bill of tourist cars which are imported by the cars dealerships reached $111.33 in the period between January and June 2017, compared to $ 382.52 million in the same period in 2016, with a decrease of 71% in terms of value.

In terms of quantity, the number of imported tourist vehicles reached 7787 units compared to 35.575 units in the first half of 2016, with a decline of 78.11%.
