Bouhadja: “I Can’t Go Back To APN Assembly Without Security Conditions”

The disputed Chairman of the National People’s Assembly (APN), Mr Said Bouhadja stated on Sunday that he expects improved security conditions that will allow him to return to his office in the lower house of parliament, despite the announcement of the vacancy of his post and the FLN-led deputies’ declared readiness to elect a successor.

“I cannot return to the Assembly except in the case of security conditions,” Mr. Bouhadja told Echorouk News Channel, referring to the pro-government deputies’ protests against his adamant will not to tender his resignation, and this protracted stand-off led to the closure of the parliamentary institution.

He explained that “what is behind the unwarranted deputies’ protests is nothing but bullying,” while calling for “a revamping of certain laws in a bid to resolve the nagging problem”.

Mr Said Bouhadja stressed that he is not “clinging to the position of chairman of the APN as much as he strictly adheres to the laws of the Republic and to the preservation of state institutions,” noting that “a Mujadhid (Fredom-fighter) cannot quit his post gripped with humiliation, stressing that he will come out of this untoward situation with honor”.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, the Office of the National People’s Assembly, which met under the chairmanship of Mr Hadj Al Ayeb as the oldest deputy, announced the resumption of the Assembly’s proceedings after a period of stalemate which lasted over three weeks.
