Two days ago, the intelligence department, in coordination with the judicial police at the Ben-Bella International Airport of Oran, (western Algeria) succeeded in thwarting an attempt by a traveler to smuggle abroad, precisely to Turkey, a considerable amount of hard currency amounting to 60 thousand Euros, or the rough equivalent of 300 million centimes in Dinars.
The security services at the airport level, managed through their vigilance to foil the smuggling plan, which turned out to include a network made up of several people, led by a big trader in the market of the new city, while his go-betweens are a traveler and a waiter working at the airport’s café.
As a matter of fact, the hard currency smuggling plan consisted in funneling the money to the waiter, who is at the last point at the airport, and the latter will covertly give it to the passenger who is waited by another person in Turkey, but the rapid intervention of the intelligence department enabled the foiling of the smuggling attempt.
This led to the arrest of the waiter and the traveler of 34 years, while the hard currency to be smuggled overseas was seized by security services at the airport.
Shortly after their arrest, the defendants were brought before the Attorney General of the Senia Court in Oran to answer for their misdeeds.
