Crisis Management Planning To Restore The Capital After Disasters

Algiers will be among the capitals of the various countries that have a plan for the managing of natural disasters immediately after their occurrence and thus restoring their lives within the first few hours, within a project that is prepared since 2018 with the participation of local and foreign experts and studies office in this field, as to be ready for application after the deadline of the open workshops that are generally limited by more than 18 months.

Director of the project of urban flexibility scheme for the capital Algiers, Mohamed Ismail, explained, on the sidelines of the third workshop of the project that was dedicated to the media, in the presence of specialists from the studies’ office, that the capital of the country, and as it is known to be threatened by many natural disasters, such as earthquakes and landslides and floods as well, that are renewed each time due to the climate changes that are taking place in the world.

In view of all these factors and risks that surrounded the capital, the reality called for the establishment of a plan for urban resilience that aimed at finding the way to deal with natural disasters as soon as they occur, and preparing the arrangements and mechanisms that are necessary for disasters in the early hours of their occurrence, in order to revive the city again so as not to stop the movement and the various activities as it periodically occurred in case of disasters in different parts of the country.

The spokesman spoke about the possibility of keeping the roads open in the face of traffic, hospitals, and other sectors as well, such as schools and other institutions in parallel with the plan should find different ways to secure the citizens and their properties together.

In more details, Mohamed Ismail gave a detailed explanation of the project underway, which was launched in June 2018, as the period of completion was decided for 18 months, with the participation of 12 sectors and 5 working groups, including an open media group, which was considered by the project manager as important due to the confidence that is placed by citizens in various media, which role remains important and essential in raising awareness about disasters.

Mohamed Ismail, insisted that the media practice has an important role in this scheme to enlighten public opinion and inform citizens because they are the first to be in the field during the disaster and they should be equipped with various guidance and methods of dealing with disasters as planned by initiated its meetings with various associations that are active at the level of the capital.
