English Language Fans Win The Higher Education Ministry’s Referendum
Advocates of promoting the use of English Language in the university overwhelmed a survey that was launched by the Ministry of Higher Education, on Friday, via a digital platform that is placed at the disposal of the university students and workers.
The Minister of Higher Education, Tayeb Bouzid, published the results of the referendum on the first day of its launch, which shows that 95% represents those who said Yes for the promotion of the English Language, compared to 5% of those who reject the project.
According to the provided information, more than 33,000 participants in the referendum were recorded on the first day only.
The Ministry chose July,5  Independence Day, to launch the process, a step that has its historical symbolism, as the electronic referendum will continue until the 5th of August.
The National Coordinator of the Council of Higher Education Teachers, Dr. Abdelhafid Milat, published on his Facebook page that; “The referendum of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, which started today … is like a referendum on April 8, 1962 …”, referring to the referendum on the approval of the Evian agreements for the self-determination of Algeria.
According to the facebook page of the Minister of Higher Education, the results of the process will be published periodically with every Wednesday of the week.
On Thursday, Tayeb Bouzid announced that “in anticipation of the opening of the file to promote the use of English in the university and research centers, for study and debate, a digital platform was prepared to be made available to the university environment and citizens, in general, to give their views directly.”
“I gave the instructions to my fellow directors of university institutions to take all the necessary sensitization and technical measures to make this process a success.”
