Erdoğan: “Algeria Is Libya’s Most Important Neighbor, It Can Play A Key Role In The Country’s Political Solution”

Algeria is Libya’s most important neighbouring countries and it can play a key role in the political process in this country, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan told journalists on the plane, as he was flying from Algeria to the Gambia, on Monday.

“I discussed the situation in Libya with the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, who visited Turkey last week”, he added.

“Regarding the Libyan file, Haftar who escaped from Moscow and Berlin should be stopped from violating the ceasefire to achieve peace in Libya and make progress in the political process”.

“Haftar is carrying out heinous practices in Libya and we are following the situation and we will continue until the end to do what is necessary”.

“I told Merkel clearly and frankly that they are standing in the wrong place, Haftar is a liar, and they are allowed to pamper this liar. Egypt and the Abu Dhabi government are his biggest supporters, and Russia is there through the Wagner mercenaries that Abu Dhabi government financially supports”.

“All the weapons and ammunition that arrive there (Libya) are provided by the Abu Dhabi government, and of course the purchase of arms is not difficult to save money, and it is not important from which country the arms are purchased, but despite that, Haftar did not achieve his goals there, and of course it was important for the steadfastness of the government of National Accord, especially with the presence of the Prime Minister of al-Wifaq, Fayez el-Sarraj, at the head of his forces”.

“El-Sarraj presented a successful test in Moscow, and sided with the agreement in Berlin, and the other party (Haftar) did not take the agreement. The same games are being implemented in the UN Security Council. I discussed the issue with the United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres”.

The President of Turkey made an official visit to Algeria, at the beginning of the week, it is the first for a foreign president to Algeria after the election of Abdelmadjid Tebboune as President of Algeria.

Tebboune said in a press conference with the Turkish President; “I agreed with my counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan to implement the outputs of the Berlin Conference on Libya and the permanent coordination between the two countries on the developments of the crisis”.

“We have full agreement to follow what was decided at the Berlin conference and seek peace and daily coordination on developments”.

On the economic relations between the two countries, Erdogan, speaking on the plane, told reporters who accompanied him on his African tour that included Algeria, the Gambia and Senegal, that it was agreed to set up a contract for the establishment of a petrochemical company plant between Sonatrach and the Turkish Renaissance, in the southern Turkish province of Adana, at a value of $ 1.2 billion.

“The project will positively affect the current account deficit in Turkey, and the project will be completed as soon as possible”.
