Foreign Affairs Ministry: “Moroccan Consul’s Statements, If Confirmed, Are Not Acceptable”

Foreign Affairs Minister Sabri Boukadoum has summoned the ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco in Algiers to “confront him with the words of the Moroccan Consul General in Oran during an exchange with Moroccan citizens,” a statement of the Foreign Ministry said Thursday.

“The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco in Algiers was summoned, Wednesday, May 13, 2020, by Mr. Sabri Boukadoum, Minister of Foreign Affairs to confront him with the words of the Moroccan Consul General in Oran during an exchange with Moroccan citizens,” the statement said.

The Moroccan ambassador was told that “the dubbing by the Moroccan Consul General in Oran, if it were to be established, of Algeria as an ‘enemy country’ is a serious violation of diplomatic customs and practices, which cannot be tolerated.

It is also an attack on the nature of relations between two neighboring countries and two brotherly peoples, which requires the Moroccan authorities to take appropriate measures to avoid the adverse repercussions of this incident on bilateral relations,” the source added.
