French Ambassador To Algiers Writes A Book About Algerians Of “Dual Nationality”

The French Ambassador in Algeria, His Excellency Mr. Xavier Driencourt, will sign a book, he wrote,  on the historical ties between Algeria and France on Saturday, illustrated by the itinerary of four Algerians who differ in academic qualifications and social and functional status.

This book, according to a publication issued by the French Embassy in Algeria, is “the result of a heated and unthinkable meeting between four men with a distinctive track, as it is an innovative book because it includes a dialogue between four voices that are not accustomed to talking to one another: Karim Hassoun, a young Frenchman of Algerian descent from the French suburbs and Nasser Safar, an Algerian who lived without residence documents in France.”

At the initiative of Mr. Xavier Driencourt, the four met to express their personal views of France and Algeria and asked fundamental questions, according to the publication, notably about living together under the shadow of the Republic and what the French of different origins offer.

According to the author, after returning to France after four years in Algeria as Ambassador to this country, he says:

“The four years I spent there, my meetings, experiences, friendships and my travels in the country, both gradual and intangible, made my view as a senior official change regarding the look of a person, with on focus all the hovering questions, doubts and interrogations”. “

“There are hundreds of senior officials like me, hundreds of thousands, even millions, and dual citizens like Karim, dozens, even hundreds of thousands, of undocumented people like Nasser. But how many of them meet and have a chance to talk to each other”.

The book provides a vivid account of their personal stories, their paths and their close and strong relations with France and Algeria.

Each of them highlights his own testimony about the journey of his ardent quest for brotherhood, starting with their determination to look into the future of living together, without turning their backs on the rich and common past between France and Algeria, the source said.
