Maj. Gen. Ahmed Gaid Salah, Chief of Staff of the National People’s Army and Deputy Minister of National Defense, said on Monday, that some parties thought they could steer events as they saw them, but were disappointed that the elections are a gateway to the crisis.

This came in a speech to the cabinet meeting as quoted by public television.

Gaid Salah asserted that some parties believed that they could guide events according to their personal vision, but they are disappointed, adding that the army leadership was keen to preserve the state institutions to preserve its prestige at home and abroad.

According to him, the elections are the end of a course of insight by the leadership of the army and will be the gate that enables Algeria to get out of this crisis.
