Horror In France Stemming From Algeria’s Resolve To Import Russian Wheat

Algeria is envisaging to purchase Russian wheat for the first time in preparation for its future imports, and this move will be a direct threat, but a disaster for the French producers whose shares will decline significantly in the Algerian market, according to Bloomberg.
France has up to now been the main supplier of wheat to Algeria, but Russia has recently emerged upfront by offering its wheat products to Algeria at lower prices, Bloomberg reported on Wednesday.
The US agency said that if Russia secures a foothold in the Algerian market, which is currently the largest importer of wheat in the world, this contingency will pose a direct and dire threat to European producers, but in particular the French.
According to the same source, Russia is in the process of shattering the French hegemony over imports of Algerian wheat, after it offered its products to the Algerians at a better price than the French, noting that Algeria will soon test Russian wheat, which it has never bought due to factors related to quality.
“Algeria, if it decides to open its doors to Russian wheat, will make this decision an earthquake in the global market, and it will be a real nightmare for French exports,” Bloomberg quoted international wheat market analyst Gabriel Omnas as saying.
Bloomberg surmised to this effect that Russia’s projected entry into the Algerian market would drastically weaken Europe on the world market and ramp up Russia’s position as North Africa’s main supplier of wheat.
