Malian Foreign Ministry Hasn’t Summoned Algerian Ambassador Posted In Bamako

Official sources denied to ”Echorouk” certain press reports concerning the summoning by the Malian foreign ministry of the Algerian Ambassador in Bamako over the illegal migrants’ issue.
“The Algerian Ambassador posted in Bamako has never been summoned by the Malian authorities and he hasn’t been contacted in this regard,” an official source told Echorouk .
“The latter was quick to notify the foreign ministry in Algiers earlier in the morning to confirm that the Malian foreign ministry never called him,” the same source added.
Earlier, the ambassador and the consul general of Mali in Algeria were reportedly recalled by their country for consultation on the precarious situation of their nationals, reported the BBC on Thursday.
1,441 Malian illegal migrants were expelled from Algeria between January and March of the current year, under conditions dubbed by the Malian authorities as “very difficult”.
Cited by the same source, the Malian Minister of the Exterior and African Integration Abdramane Sylla described this situation as “not quite acceptable”.
According to the Malian minister, these treatments are the reason that pushed the Government of Mali to recall its diplomatic representatives for consultations.
Moreover, and in the same context, Abdramane Sylla asked his fellow citizens who do not feel safe, to leave Algeria.
In the past few months, Algeria has deported hundreds of African nationals, especially from Mali and Niger, and confirms that the deportations were carried out in close consultation with the authorities of both countries and in strict compliance with international humanitarian laws and charters.
