MDN: “National People’s Army Members Are Free To Choose Their Candidate For President”

Military personnel will “exercise, in civilian clothes their right and duty to vote, by direct means, similarly to their fellow citizens, at the polling stations in which they are registered”, during the presidential election on December 12th 2019, said Monday, a press release from the Department of National Defense (MDN).

“As part of the keen interest of the High Command of the National People’s Army (ANP) in the success of the presidential elections scheduled for 12 December 2019, in full respect of the Constitution and the laws of the Republic, military personnel shall exercise, by civil dress, their right and duty to vote, by direct means, such as of their fellow citizens at the polling stations in which they are registered, throughout the national territory,” the press release stated.

However, employees “who are unable to vote directly, because of the missions assigned to them, they will fulfill their electoral duty by proxy, in accordance with the Organic Law on Elections in force”, added the same source.

As for military personnel at the level of the campaign, the MDN indicated that they will “exercise their right to vote in the polling stations near their place of work, or at the polling station through mobile voting dedicated for this purpose at the level of the wilayas or provinces concerned by this measure”.

In addition, the High Command of the ANP emphasized that the military “are free to choose the candidate who fits their own convictions during these elections impregnated with the values of democracy, transparency and integrity, reflecting the will of the Algerian people and their free choice”.

The MDN again underlined that the ANP will “take all security measures to enable the Algerian people to fulfill this national electoral duty in a climate of tranquility, quietude and serenity”.
