Spanish coach Rafael Benitez called on the new international Algerian player, Islam Slimani, to prepare for the match against Manchester United.
The match will be held next Sunday, drawing the 27th round of the English Premier League championship.
Slimani joined Newcastle on Wednesday, loaned until next summer, as he is linked to Leicester City with a contract that will expire in the summer of 2021.
“Islam Slimani started training with his new team Newcastle, and his chance to play against Manchester United is very ample”, coach Rafael Benitez said.
This came at a news conference, that was followed by Newcastle and the hosting club Crystal Palace (1-1) last Sunday, drawing the 26th round of the Premier League.
Asked why he had not been called on to face Crystal Palace, Benitez said Algeria Greens’ striker had a groin injury and had not yet recovered his fitness and technical ability.
“Slimani is required to compete for a key seat, as did his new co-hosts Martin Dubravka (goalkeeper) and Kennedy (midfielder)”, said coach Benitez, who gave them a chance to play against Crystal Palace, although they moved to Newcastle on loan in January 2017.
Newcastle ranks 16th with 25 points, 12 rounds before the end of the Premier League, and are struggling to survive, while Manchester United are second with 56 points in the Premiership.
