Ruling FLN Party: “Mouad Bouchareb Plotted Against ANP Army And Popular Protest Movement”

The New Secretary-General of the National Liberation Front Party (FLN), Mohamed Djemai, urged the Attorney General of the Capital Algiers to open a judicial investigation into the conspiracy waged by  the beleaguered Speaker of the National People’s Assembly, Mouad Boucharab, with the “unconstitutional forces” against the military establishment and the popular movement.

Mr Djemai met on Tuesday evening with all the members of the party at the FLN headquarters in upper Hydra district to discuss the outstanding national issues marked by the developments in the country, notably the latest invitation of the Army Chief of Staff, Major General Ahmed Gaid Saleh, to foster a serious, rational and clear-sighted national dialogue to overcome the current political crisis and to smoothly return to the electoral track as early as possible.

After ignoring the voting contest on 4 July, the FLN intends to play an important role in the next presidential elections that the government intends to organize, the date of which has not yet been set. Mohamed Djemai, the party’s general secretary, said this on Wednesday: “The FLN could have its candidate or support a candidate for the next presidential election”.

“The FLN has many competent executives who can represent the people, far from any selfishness. What matters to us at the FLN is to get out of the current crisis,” he explained on the sidelines of the setting up of a disciplinary commission at the party’s headquarters.

The FLN intends to present or support a candidate who “will be accepted by the population”, added Mr. Djemai. The candidate in question will have to “accept a multi-party system, have Algeria in his heart and be above all Novemberist”, he said.

“We have a major and forward-thinking role to play in the upcoming presidential polls,” he also argued.

The FLN is against any idea of political transition. “These are periods that have demonstrated their ineffectiveness and dangerousness in several countries. A political transition means the absence of the force of the law and the Constitution. This is a period of unpredictable fallout. We strongly and convincingly support the military institution that did not want to follow this path with an uncertain outcome”, Mr Djemai underlined.

He added: “At the FLN, we are in favor of a constructive dialogue, a solution within a constitutional framework. We advocate innovation within the constitutional framework”.

However, the FLN approves the postponement of the presidential election to allow the establishment of an independent body for the “organization and supervision” of elections and the thorough revision of the electoral law. “Mechanisms must be found to organize elections in accordance with the requirements of the popular movement,” the FLN Party Secretary General underscored in this regard.
