Two Algerians were arrested, on Tuesday, by the Spanish security services in an anti-terrorism operation in Barcelona, the regional Catalan police forces said.
The two Algerian nationals are accused of being part of a cell, under investigation since 2017, which was planning an attack with explosives in Barcelona, the police said in a statement on Tuesday. It also said the cell had been fully disbanded.
The regional Catalan police raided two houses after receiving instructions from the national court which monitors terrorism and transnational criminal organizations.
The Spanish News Agency EFE quoted judicial sources as saying that two Algerians planned a terrorist attack with explosives in Barcelona.
They explained that this anti-terrorism operation came after an investigation into a terrorist attack in Barcelona since 2017, adding that the two accused were transferred to the national court after their detention.
