Tayeb Bouzid: “English Is Inevitable And Must Be Bolstered in All Disciplines”

The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mr. Tayeb Bouzid, announced on Monday the creation of a national accreditation agency, which aims to develop foreign languages, especially English, and to strengthen them in various branches and technical and humanitarian disciplines.
Students have an important language, that is English, in the higher education and scientific research sector, he underlined while announcing the establishment of a university of excellence in Sidi Abdallah south of the capital Algiers, which is expected to be a center for the development of the English language through the guidance of foreign experts and specialists.
“We attach great importance to improving the academic and professional conditions of the professor and university researcher, including the problem of occupational housing,” he said.
The Minister added, “We ordered to provide all financial funds and to speed up the pace of unfinished or frozen housing, which now amounts to 2,660 housing units,” but he did not exclude the provision of logistical capabilities such as offices with the review of the directive law of higher education and the adoption of rotational training.
With regard to the current university year, the minister considered that all conditions are ready to make it quite successful, as more than 260 thousand new students have been enrolled and this number is expected to hike after the completion of studies for about 360 thousand students.
Mr Tayeb Bouzid also stated that the number of professors is currently estimated at 60,853, and is expected to rise after external recruitment competitions destined to hire more than 64,000 university professors.
Regarding the university services sector, the minister stressed the receipt of 51 thousand beds, bringing the number of beds to 658 thousand beds at the national level, considering the sector as important stressing that the latter ought to be enhanced and upgraded at all levels for a better performance.
