The French Embassy in Algeria announced the complete closure of consular services in the capital Algiers, until further notice, due to the outbreak of the new Corona virus, and indicated that owners of canceled appointments will benefit from the exemption of payment of fees in the future date that they will be determined any time soon.

A statement of the French Embassy in Algeria, published on its official website on Monday, indicated that the consulate services in Algiers have been completely suspended, explaining that for those whose dates of filing of visa files have been canceled, they will benefit from a complete cancellation of fees during the next date for filing the file, while those whose files were being processed by the consul general before the suspension of the relevant the services, they will be contacted by the filing center “VFS Global” in order to receive their passports, according to the usual procedures.

As for the owners of visa files that the consul was unable to start processing, the consulate is obliged to return the files to their owners, according to the same statement, for short-term visa applications, and with it the passport which does not have any stamp, stressing that the latter will be contacted by the center ” FS Global “, in the coming days to explain how to return files to their owners.

With regard to this last category, the statement explains that, when the consular services resume their activities again, they can file a request to take advantage of the cancellation of fees and deposit their file again, with the presentation of the visa file that has not been processed, and the VFS Global Center will provide procedural facilities to set an appointment for a new deposit.

With regard to entry to the soil of France, the same statement stated that as from the date of March 18, 2020 until a new notice, foreign nationals who are not members of the Schengen space of the European Union or the United Kingdom, who have no compulsory reason to move to Europe or France, will be refused entry to French soil.

The same statement indicated that people who are currently on French soil and have a short-term visa, can, according to justified cases, benefit from the extension of the short-stay visa for a maximum period of 90 days, or from a temporary residence permit for a period of 3 months, indicating that these persons are called upon to get into contact with the headquarters of the governorates who are within their region.

The statement concluded that, given the current exceptional circumstances, the extension of the short stay visa will take place free of charge.

Meanwhile, informed sources told “Echorouk” that the French diplomatic authorities, in cooperation with their Algerian counterparts, on Monday, evacuated about 150 French nationals who were stuck in Algeria, after the suspension of flights due to the new Corona virus.
