Will Algeria Boycott French Products Until The End Of 2020?

Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry will meet within a week to decide on the position of Algerian economic dealers regarding French goods and products, which are being boycotted by several Islamic countries due to the fierce attack of French President Emmanuel Macron against the Islam and his encouragement for the insulting of the Holy Prophet Mohamed (PBUH), at a time the chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry confirms that boycotting French products, even for a period of time, has become more than a necessity to put an end to these fierce attacks on Islam and Muslim beliefs.

In the context, the chairman of the Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Abdelkader Gouri, told Echorouk that a meeting between members of the Chamber of Commerce and economic dealers will be held next week, to determine the position of the Chamber, importers and dealers regarding the French goods and products.

“Violations committed against Islam and insulting the Prophet Mohamed, Allah prayers and peace be upon him, is a dangerous matter that requires taking a stand and denouncing. Importers dealing with France are required to adopt a stance by boycotting French goods, and we have enough of their products in our warehouses so that the surplus of these goods is sufficient for several months”, Gouri added.

“Algerian-French economic relationships witnessed remarkable stability during the past years and noticed large trade exchanges. Algerian-French partnership is linking and codifying the terms of the Algerian-European Partnership Agreement, or what is known as the Partnership Agreement with the European Union, while Algeria’s economic relations are with Arab countries as well. It is codified according to the Algerian-Arab Partnership Agreement. Some parties refuse to cut ties and boycott due to economic interests and profits, but today we are obligated to take a stand and express our discontent”.

Chairman of the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry asserted that his body is not authorized to adopt an official position regarding the fierce attack on the beliefs and convictions of Muslims by the French or to announce it, but it will discuss the file according to what is available, especially since the Algerian-French partnership is at the forefront of Algerian exchanges with foreign countries. However, every economic dealer is required to express his disapproval of this campaign against the prophet Mohamed (PBUH), even though a limited-term boycott. We have sufficient stocks of goods and products that we import from France and we can implement the boycott policy even for a specific period”.

According to what was previously published by Echorouk, the volume of trade exchange between Algeria and France in 2019 reached about $10 billion and 200 million, of which France’s exports to Algeria accounted for $5.5 billion, compared to $4.6 billion of imports, and this trade balance flows in the interest of Paris by $817 million.
