2.7 Million Algerians Visited Tunisia Since The Begining Of 2019

The Regional Authority of the Border Police in Souk Ahras (eastern Algeria) revealed that its services through the two border checkpoints towards the Tunisian lands, in both al Hadada and Ouled Moumene, have registered since the beginning of this December the return of 32 people who were prevented from crossing the border, due to the existence of decisions that prevent them from leaving the national territory, or their involvement in cases that put them at risk of travel, while 14 Algerians were prevented from entering the Tunisian territory by the Tunisian border police because they were subjected to a ban on entering Tunisian soil for their involvement in cases and crimes which they had committed earlier in the Tunisian territory, and were subject to judicial rulings that prevent them from entering the Tunisian territory.

The border checkpoints between Algeria and Tunisia were known during December, especially during the second half of it, to coincide with the school winter vacation, as Thousands of Algerians who preferred to travel to Tunisia to spend days of vacation arrived in Tunisian hotels and tourist vehicles that offered attractive offers by the end of year, attracting thousands of Algerians who went to the border checkpoints to stamp their passports and return to Algeria to justify the exchange of the tourist grant which is 100 euros and exchanging it in the parallel market to achieve some financial profits that exceeded the amount of DZD 5000 per passport, after the record rise in the price of the euro in the black market.

According to the statement of the Regional Authority of the Border Police in Souk Ahras (eastern Algeria), its services recorded during the first half of December a tourist movement of 47,621 people towards Tunisian territory, a number that doubled significantly in the second half of December with the start of the school holidays and the New Year’s celebration.

The provincial administration of the border police in Tebessa (eastern Algeria) announced that its services were registered through the four checkpoints in the Tebessa, and it has registered a tourist movement of two million and 700,000 people towards Tunisian territory, since the beginning of 2019, which has created a kind of pressure on the border between the two countries, especially during holidays and the various occasions in which many Algerians prefer to travel to Tunisia not only for tourism but also for treatment and the acquisition of some medicines and even some fruits that are known to record high prices in Algeria.

Tunisians’ movement thrived towards the Algerian lands to acquire clothes and various needs from the internal markets, and resell them in the Tunisian markets.
