20 Algerian illegal immigrants sequestrated in reception center
A former Greek policeman has sequestrated 20 Algerian illegal immigrants living in a reception center in Athens , and forced them to pay 3 to 5 euros a day each or denounce them to the immigration services.
According to the statements of the victims at the police station, the policeman operating with two of his acolytes is in charge of security in the African- Greece Friendship Association, which owns several centers dedicated to foreign visitors to Greece as part of sealed agreements between this country and African ones, including Algeria .
The convict was using empty centers to house illegal immigrants asking them to pay a rent on the basis that they were legal ones. To tighten his control on his victims, this one seized their papers as conservatory measures.
Judicial sources revealed that the man was, over months, closing the doors behind him at night to prevent the immigrants to get into the center before paying what they owed, whereas others were sequestrated inside.
One of the Algerian immigrants was very sick and had to be evacuated to the hospital, which forced his fellow citizens to break the door. But on their return at dawn, the man forced them to pay for the damaged door; otherwise, he would denounce them to the police, the victims revealed.
The man is known to the police services as he was arrested three years ago on charges of bank robbery in Athens .
He is now jailed for sequestration of illegal immigrants, whereas the victims have been evacuated to another reception center awaiting their expatriation to their home country.
