2010 World Cup Qualifiers: “The Fennecs overwhelmed by doubt after goalless draw versus Rwanda”.
According to the vast majority of the football lovers in Algeria, the national squad, under the guidance of coach Rabah Saâdane, got off to a bad start in its quest for a qualification to the 2010 World Cup finals after its goalless tie in Kigali versus a modest Rwandan line-up as part of the second phase of the combined qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations competition.
-
Despite being tipped as great favourite for the Kigali encounter, the Algeria team showed glaring drawbacks in both the midfield and forward lines and was held at bay during most of the game by determined Rwandan players.

Sport commentators contend that the chairman of the FAF Federation and the national coach should have mitigated their “triumphant” declarations on the eve of the official competition by saying bluntly that the Fennecs’ race for a qualification to the 2010 World Cup finals would be most difficult and grueling in order to preclude any popular disappointment due to the bulging over-optimism which should have been avoided in the first place.
-
A large number of football fans lashed at Saâdane’s choice of the line-up, stressing that it was inadequate as several players who played versus Rwanda were not up to the mark.
-
A lot of people also remain flabbergasted at Saâdane’s untoward decision not to incorporate professional player Yacine Bezzaz, despite the latter’s immense contribution to Algeria’s qualification in the previous round of the competition.
-
They argued that in view of his great offensive potentialities, Yacine Bezzaz could have given a solid boost to the Fennecs’ forward line during the Kigali match.
