25,000 tons of Indian and Brazilian meat to destroy prices in Ramadan
Over 25,000 tons of red meat from India, Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil, were imported before Ramadan to meet the large demand and stop the prices’ rise during this holy month, ,Head of the Algerian Consumer Protection Federation, Zaki Hariz, told Echorouk.
“These quantities of meat are qualitative and contain no impurities, as they were prepared prepared after slaughter according to the Islamic Sharia, and according to images and evidences that were prepared by the federation”.
“Necessary quantities of frozen red meat were imported, especially from India and Brazil by private and public importers, to present them during Ramadan with prices ranging between 400 and 600 ZDZ per kilogram”.
“Imported meat from India and Latin America which sale was decided to take place in Ramadan, as it enjoys all the required healthy and technical conditions, as they are slaughtered according to Sharia traditions, but the consumers should be aware of all the details of these products, in order to ensure the right of choice that is considered one of the basic rights of consumers, considering that the citizen will have the opportunity to choose meat according to the ability.”
In a related context, same spokesman said that his body has no objection on Indian meat that respected all the veterinary conditions that are imposed by Algeria, on imported meat products, contrary to is promoted by some parties that are described as “lobbies”.
“Federation has evidenced and analysis that prove that these meat quantities are completely compatible with the conditions and empty from all impurities, as agents of customs’ sections at Algiers port work hard to control these products, thing which deleted all fears in case of providing circumstances of healthy transport”.
