3,000 cars theft and 9,000 others disappearance in Algeria

Cars theft is growing in Algeria because – according to recent statistics- cars’ theft networks was able during the first eight months of this year to stole 2,695 vehicles, where only 468 cars were recovered.

  • Algerian Gendarmerie forces mentioned that 867 involved have been arrestad, and “Renault”, “Peugeot” and “Sonacom” trucks were most targeted cars by cars-theft systems, while the central provinces remain at the top of the highest rates of cars’ theft, including Boumerdes province.
  • “Renault” cars type is on top of the most stolen cars in Algeria, where it reached during 2008 more than 2695 vehicles of various types, and most thefts happened at Ain Defla province, where gangs specialized in smuggling and stoling cars and spare parts are active.
  • A decrease in this criminal activity had been recorded after the crackdown that had been launched by security forces, after the suicide attacks which happened in Algeria since April 2007, where the terrorist groups intensified robberies on cars, to use them in these terrorist operations, especially cars-type “Toyota Helix” and refrigerating trucks.
  • A recent security report prepared by the National Gendarmerie Command on car theft in Algeria revealed that, 2695 cars had been stolen this year in various provinces of Algeria, thus enabled the investigation to recover 468 cars after the dismantling of specialized networks.
  • Cars gangs target “Renault”, “Peugeot” , “Toyota” and “Hyundai”
  • “Renault” comes in the first place in terms of the most stolen car-types’ number with 792 cars, then “Peugeot” with 357 cars, “Toyota” 352 cars and “Hunday” 328 cars, in addition to 159 cars-type “Chevrolet”and 55 “Mercedes”.
