Algeria: FLN about to split up

Algeria’s FLN party still experiences an internal conflict as members of its central commission criticized its bureau chief Ahmed Boumahdi for getting permit from the Algerian interior ministry to hold the party’s 7th ordinary session on August 29th and 30th.

The commission’s members considered Boumahdi’s decision illegal as it was made away from the FLN’s entrusted structures by virtue of rules and regulations.

The rules and regulations stipulate that the party’s general coordinator Abderrahmane Belayat must be called in 15 days before the proceedings opening.

Belayat denied that central commission called him in August 2013, saying Article 9 of the rules and regulations gives the prerogative of calling in to the political office coordinator only.

“In its last meeting, the political office announced that the central commission’s meeting to elect a new Secretary General will be decided in a later meeting,” said Belayat on Thursday.

“Indeed, the political office will meet. This meeting will be included in its agenda,” he added.

Abdelkrim Abada, a member in the central commission considered Boumahdi’s request for a permit as an illegal act.

“The central commission plans to hold the party’s ordinary session in the next few days,” he told Echorouk.
