President Bouteflika orders FLN Secretary General to exclude old figures from electoral race

President Bouteflika orders FLN Secretary General to exclude old figures from electoral race

The National Liberation Front headquarters were turned upside down in the wake of a telephone call received by the party’s SG Abdelaziz Belkhadem from the presidential palace in which the honorary president Abdelaziz Bouteflika has summoned him to exclude the old figures from the electoral race.

  •

  • Reliable sources that spoke on anonymity conditions, have revealed to Echouorouk that the president Bouteflika has called the Abdelaiz Belkhadem and summoned him for a meeting in order to discuss some points pertaining to the FLN preparations for the upcoming elections including the list of the candidates.

  •

  • During the one-to one meeting, the president asked Abdelaziz Belkhadem about the internal dissentions that undermined the party’s stability as well as the name of the chief candidate in Algiers.

  •

  • Abdelaziz Bouteflika was utterly upset when he heard the name Abdelaziz Ziari , replying ironically to Belkhadem : Who is Ziari?.

  •

  • The president has vehemently slashed out at the Abdelaiz Belkhadem reproaching him the fact that the FLN SG didn’t consult him, in his quality as the party’s honorary president, when he picked up the lists of the candidates.

  •

  • The president has ordered him to exclude all the party’s ministers in addition to the members of the political bureau and give the chance to the younger generation. The same sources have indicated that the FLN SG was put in an uncomfortable situation and found tremendous difficulties to announce the news to the excluded candidates.

  •

  • Despite all these turbulences, the party’s leadership is working on placing the Higher Education Minister Rachid Haraoaubia on top of the list in Algiers in order to head the parliament afterwards, but the move will face administrative hurdles because the candidate is already registered in his hometown, Souk Ahras, eastern Algeria.
