Algeria should search for alternative markets in Asia, Trade Minister says

Algiers- Some political parties would exploit the issue of widely consumed products in their campaign during the upcoming polls, Trade Minister; Mostapha Ben Bada explains the government’s concerns on Wednesday.

The minister asserted that a debate will be opened on the issue after the upcoming legislative polls.

“The debate on the issue will be discussed after the upcoming legislative elections, in order not to be subject-matter of political outbidding. Government would continue its support for basic products in order to preserve the purchasing power of consumers. Algeria added a large number of products to be supported with the participation of the national office of grains and dry beans, which has become affective in this area.

The Minister of Trade asserted, in a statement for the national radio, that Algeria is not immune to the global economic crisis which has an impact on the decline of exports to European markets, the rising of import prices.

“There is no direct impact currently, however; the continuing crisis in the Euro zone will lead to an economic recession. Algerian imports would decrease because the prices and cost of products will be subject to inflation. I call upon the government to the need to prepare for such scenarios through looking for raw materials and products in others markets such as Asia”.

“Negotiations on the accession of Algeria to the World Trade Organization will be resumed soon. The problem which faced us was the team in charge of approving Algeria’s accession to the organization, now the problem is solved and the European Union unanimously agreed on nominating the Belgian Ambassador to Switzerland, and Algeria accepted this nomination. On December the general council will meet in order to demark this nomination, and when the team will be appointed the first problem will be solved”.
