Government began to prepare for a new mechanism in the “near future” that will help African refugees “without restriction of their freedoms or harm their dignity”, Minister of Solidarity, Family and Women’s Issues, Mounia Mouslim said on the sidelines of the African Kids Day (June 16) of each year.
“Preparation for this mechanism stems from the perception of Algeria to the need to provide aid to these refugees and provide protection as required by the duty of human solidarity, which it used to do in similar cases, similar to what was done with the Syrian brothers.”
In response to a question – as quoted by APS – about the number of African refugees in Algeria, the Minister said; “Ministerial department does not have a data in this regard, especially since they refuse the stability in the camps, which was allocated to them by the authorities, through a number of Wilayas of the nation”.
“New mechanism that is organized in coordination with a number of ministries like the interior, foreign affairs, defense and national solidarity ministries, which will enable knowing the true number of those refugees, let alone identifying ways to lend a helping hand to them without restriction of their freedom or harming their dignity.”
“Protection of African refugees’ rights in Algeria is not easy, and does not mean that the Ministry of Solidarity alone can allow them to take charge of their potential, and their cause means the policy of a complete state.”
Algerian Red Crescent Head, Saida Ben Hebiles, confirmed earlier that the red crescent is ready to do its humanitarian duty towards African refugees, in the context of “respecting their dignity without restricting the freedoms of movement.”
“Red Crescent is ready to exercise its humanitarian duty towards these temporary refugees from several African countries such as Niger Mali, and Libya.”
“Algerian Red Crescent allocated centers to provide housing for African refugees in Ouergla and Tougourt, with the public authorities’ coordination, including medical attention and food.”
“African refugees enjoy full freedoms in Algeria, contrary to what happens in European countries (a closed system and their movements are restricted at a certain time), as they are insured in all aspects, in the framework of respecting their dignity and absolute freedom of movement without restrictions.”
