AFRIPOL Issues Arrest Warrants Against Criminals In Africa

African Police Office (AFRIPOL), which held its first meeting in Algeria, has approved an African arrest warrant against all the wanted criminals in AFRIPOL member states, and issued a communications system that includes secured databases in order to be shared between the African police services, With a view to coordinate efforts in counter terrorism and transnational crimes.

Head of the Office of International Cooperation of the General Directorate of National Security, Brigadier General of Police, Ben Yamina Abbad, said in a press conference that was organized on Tuesday, after the conclusion of the work of the first General Assembly of the African Union for Police Cooperation “Afripol”, that the countries that are involved in this new security organization developed a plan of action and a map that includes the establishment of a system of communication between the African police services, that will allow the exchange of information in a secure and fast manner, based on securing databases, and the consideration of the African arrest warrant, to arrest criminals in Africa.

“Fighting the phenomenon of terrorism, which has spread in several countries, not only in Africa, is one of the Afripol priorities, like other crimes and violations that are punishable by laws of AFRIPOL Member States. AFRIPOL has the task to development police services’ capacity and strengthening the technical equipment that is used, and exchanging experiences between African countries”. 

On the financing of AFRIPOL’s tasks and activities, Gabonese police representative, Mabango Mazarsa Yves, said that the process would be carried out in a normal manner, similar to the financing of the African Union, along the lines of all African organizations, as it would receive an additional budget during the current year. African countries suffer financial crises, but this does not necessarily mean   they do not have men and experience that is the source of their wealth, adding that Africa will depend on men before money.
