Agreement between Algeria and United Nations to support energy efficiency and innovation
he National Agency for the Development and Rationalization of Energy Use signed a cooperation agreement with the United Nations Development Program in Algeria to launch a project related to supporting energy efficiency and innovation for a sustainable transition in Algeria, the agency learned on Wednesday.
This agreement was signed on Tuesday by the Director General of the Agency, Marwan ChaabanE, and the Acting Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program in Algeria, Francesca Nardini, in the presence of representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Community Abroad, and the Ministry of Energy and Mines.
This “strategic partnership” between the two sides – according to the agency – aims to enhance innovation and entrepreneurship in the field of energy efficiency, support the reform of the regulatory framework related to energy efficiency in the residential sector, develop the use of green hydrogen as an energy alternative to reduce the carbon footprint in the industrial sector, as well as develop clean transportation. And sustainable.
According to a statement by the United Nations Development Program in Algeria, Mr. Nardini praised “Algeria’s efforts and determination to promote a new, prosperous and flexible model for sustainable energy,” noting that the United Nations Development Program considers the issue of energy transition “central” to the sustainable development of countries.
The same source confirmed that the implementation of this “ambitious” project comes as a result of “close” cooperation between the National Agency for the Development and Rationalization of Energy Use, the United Nations Development Program in Algeria, and the United Nations Development Program Center for Climate and Energy Transition, to support the goals of Algerian energy policy.
