Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr said his call for an uprising does not aim at reaching leadership but supporting oppressed people.

Al-Sadr’s second remarks came in response to the Algerian religious affairs minister Mohamed Aissa who talked about “intruder doctrines.”

“My position towards Shiite in Algeria was meant to support oppressed and marginalized people and not to be glorified or praised,” said al-Sadr.

“You should support the doctrine without harming your moderate Sunnite brothers. I did not call for a putsch neither an attack,” he added.

Al-Sadr keeps silent over daily crimes perpetrated in Syria and Iraq while he alleges his support to Algeria’s Shiite people.

Asked about countries where there are Shiite partisans, he said he sought God’s satisfaction by addressing to Shiite people in Algeria, Bahrain, Pakistan, Egypt and other countries.

“If governments including Algeria underestimate Shiite presence, why all this noise about my call for giving liberty to my partisans. They have to get their rights,” he added.

Earlier, the religious affairs minister made a comment about al-Sadr’s letter, saying some personalities harmed their countries and want to infiltrate Algeria.
