Algeria: 17 people get food poisoning due to watermelons watered with dirty water

A total of 17 food poisoning cases with strong fever and sharp diarrhea were recorded last week in Ain Timouchent province (west of Algiers).

• According to sources close to investigations, medical analysis show that the consumption of watermelons watered with dirty water was behind the poisoning.
• About 3 quintals of unhealthy watermelons have been seized from vendors while investigations are still going on.
• An officer at the National Gendarmerie told Echorouk that a surveillance campaign was launched on watermelon fields on the basis of information that farmers water them with dirty water.
