A new report issued by the Federal associations of pupils’ parents noted that school violence over the past year, has reached disquieting proportions at the national level.

The number of cases of wanton violence within Algerian schools has reached over 200 nationally, with 52 cases of violence recorded during the first quarter of the current school year which kickstarted last September.

In a reaction, this parents’ institution has appealed to the national education ministry to deal urgently with this worrying situation by punishing firmly those in charge of the school establishments who shirk or neglect their bounden duties.

The National Union of educational workers also urged the relevant authorities to expedite the recruitment of “educational assistants” in primary schools to reduce the rising plague of violence, after it became clear that the teachers cannot fulfill all of the tasks devolved upon them.

The chairman of the Federation of parents associations, Ahmed Khaled told “Echorouk” that the phenomenon of school violence, was taking serious proportions, both from the pupils themselves or from pupil against pupil, pointing to an exhaustive and detailed report listing all cases of violence in schools registered annually.

“The highest authorities in the country should pinpoint and address seriously the causes of the specter of violence after the registration of over 200 cases of violence in schools involving pupils as well as managers, teachers, and guardians”, he further underscored.
