Algeria accepts to receive Guantanamo Algerian detainees, says Red Cross spokesperson

Florian Westphal, spokesman of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said the Red Cross checked the conditions of Guantanamo Algerian detainees, the U.S decided to deport them to Algeria, he told Echorouk Friday.

• Florian Westphal said the ICRC will also follow their arrest conditions in Algeria.
• He added that the Alegrian detainees expressed their wish to come back home and the Red Cross had interviewed the two of them before their release.
• Secret interviews will be conducted later with the other Algerian detainees in Guantanamo who will be released by the US before the end of this year, according to information available at the Red Cross.
• Dorothea Krimitsas, a spokesperson for the International Committee of the Red Cross said she got guarantees on well-treatment of the 2 detainees who were deported to Algeria on Wednesday.
• Well-informed sources told Echorouk that those who had been freed may be present in Algeria next Sunday.
• The Algerian authorities rejected American conditions to strip all those who will be trialled in Algeria from their civil rights.
