Algeria And France Agree On Bolstering bilateral relations and On Peaceful Solution In Libya
Algeria and France agreed to bolster their bilateral relations and stressed the need for a political solution to the Libyan issue through the support of the peace agreement between the conflicting parties in the current crisis, as sponsored by Algeria and the United Nations.
Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel revealed “future bilateral meetings at the level of the Secretaries-General of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries, as well as the meeting of the Joint Algeria-France Economic Commission and the High-level Joint Governmental Committee to be held by the end of this year in Paris as part of the consolidation of the bilateral ties”.
For his part, French foreign minister Jean Ives Le Drian who was received in Algiers by Prime Minister Abdelmadjid Tebboune, said that French President Emmanuel Macron had entrusted him with paving the way for his upcoming visit to Algeria to convey “a message of friendship from France and the French people to Algeria and its people”.
The next visit by President Emmanuel Macron to Algeria is geared to further consolidating the French-Algerian relations and boosting a mutually-beneficial partnership in all fields of endeavor, Mr Le Drian added.
Regarding the vexed Libyan crisis, Mr Messahel said after an encounter with his French counterpart Jean Yves Le Drian, who wrapped up his visit to Algeria on Tuesday: “We support a political solution through comprehensive negotiations in order to enable Libya to achieve stability and peace”.
“Algeria and France have agreed to redouble their efforts to reach a comprehensive political solution that will allow the preservation of Libya’s territorial integrity and support for a peace process that will lead to peace and tranquility,” he said.
Mr. Mesahel said that he’d discussed with his French counterpart “the positive gains of the Algiers peace agreement in Mali and the establishment of the permanent committee for inclusive dialogue among the Malians for the sake of achieving a lasting peace”.
He also pointed out that “the chief objective remains the unflagging fight against the terrorism scourge in this region as the nefarious terrorist presence there is being exacerbated by the catastrophic situation now besetting Libya”, he noted.
